The following seminar and service-learning leadership practicum will be offered fall semester 2008. 

SLS3100:  Service-Learning Leadership Seminar (1-credit)

This seminar (offered concurrently with SLS3150) provides the conceptual background for academic service-learning allowing students to become peer-facilitators and leaders for service-learning courses, while also developing their leadership skills and social justice values. Weekly meetings will involve discussion of readings and support for how to effectively manage a service-learning project.  A midterm and final paper will allow students to synthesize elements of the seminar with the service-learning project.  Prerequisite:  instructor approval.

SLS3150:  Service-Learning Leadership Practicum (1-2 credits)
The practicum involves working with a faculty member who is currently teaching a service-learning course.  Primary activities will include:  acting as contact person for students in course and community service agency, assisting with and conducting reflection activities, design of culminating experience, evaluation of experience, and other duties specific to the course and project.  The 1-credit option requires 50 hours of work while the 2-credit option requires 100 hours be spent in activities during the semester.  Prerequisite:  SLS3100 (or concurrent) and instructor approval.
