Faculty and Staff Parking Permits

Return to Security Website

Why am I being charged a parking fee?
The parking fee was established to offset costs incurred by the University for the repair and maintenance of existing parking lots, as well as construction of new parking lots to meet increased demand.

How was the $100 per semester fee determined?
The fee amount was determined based upon the costs mentioned above, in addition to a benchmark comparison with other Universities.

Will there be a parking fee for the Summer terms?
Currently, there will be no parking fee or permit enforcement during the Summer term

How do I obtain my parking permit?
As in the past, Faculty & Staff will register their vehicle online at the beginning of the Fall semester. Faculty and Staff will have a different color parking permit than Students. The Faculty and Staff permit will be valid for both the Fall and Spring semester. In addition to printing the vehicle registration confirmation form, you will also need to print off the payment form.

How will I pay for my permit?
Rockhurst has established a Parking and Transportation Reimbursement Plan which will allow employees to have the parking fee deducted from their paycheck on a pre-tax basis, similar to the Flexible Spending Accounts for dependent care and medical expenses. Pre-tax payroll deductions will be $10 per pay period for 20 pay periods, from September to May. If you wish to participate in the Plan, you will need to present your signed payment form authorizing the payroll deduction when you pick up your permit in the Security Office.

Employees who do NOT wish to participate in the pre-tax Plan will be able to purchase their parking permit with cash or credit card. Payments by cash or credit card will only be accepted in the Finance & Human Resources Office in Conway 102. You will receive a receipt for your cash or credit card payment, which should be taken to the Security Office where you will receive your permit. Payments will NOT be accepted in the Security Office. Permits will not be issued without proof of payment (i.e. either the signed payroll deduction form or the receipt from a cash or credit card payment).

Will my parking permit guarantee me a place to park my vehicle?
Unfortunately, the parking permit does not guarantee a parking spot, but with the revenue generated by the parking fee Rockhurst will be able to provide additional parking facilities.

Where will the new parking lots be located?
We will be redesigning the current parallel parking system along Rockhurst Road and replacing it with angled parking, which will create room for an additional 15-20 vehicles. We also plan to add 59 spaces at the site of the former Jimmy’s Restaurant at 5429 Troost Avenue. We are working on design plans for a proposed lot at 5136 Forest Avenue, which will provide approximately 20 parking spots. Additionally, there will be approximately 11 new spots available in the Bellarmine Lot due to removing the “islands” that this Lot currently contains.

When will the new parking spaces be available?
We hope to have the new parking spaces available during the Fall 2007 semester.

Will contract employees pay to park also?
Yes, employees of Barnes & Noble, Sodexho and Xerox will also need to purchase a parking permit to park in University lots.

What if I have more than one vehicle?
The University will use hang tag permits, which are easily transferable.

What happens if my hang tag is lost or stolen?
The cost to replace a lost or stolen hang tag is the same as purchasing a new tag.

What is the refund policy for parking permits?
There will be no refunds on parking permits after the 1 st Friday of the first full week of class for the Semester.

What happens if I do not buy a permit but I park in the University lots?
Signs will be posted in all lots reading “Rockhurst University Permit Parking Only”. Vehicles without a valid permit displayed will be issued a parking ticket with a fine of $25. If a vehicle is ticketed 3 times during a semester, then the vehicle will have a boot placed on a wheel, with immediate payment of a $75 fine to remove the boot, as well as payment of all past due parking tickets. You will need to contact the Security Department at ext. 4010 or via a Red or Blue phone in order to have the boot removed from your vehicle.

What if I leave my permit at home or in another vehicle?
You will need to contact the Security Department at ext. 4010 to obtain a temporary tag.

What if my Department will have guests coming to the campus to visit?
You may contact the Security Department to obtain a temporary permit for these situations.

If I have a question or concern regarding parking, whom should I contact?
You may contact the Rockhurst University Security Department at 816-501-4659 regarding parking enforcement or the Finance & Human Resources Office at 816-501-4870 regarding the billing and collection of the parking fee. Additionally, you may refer to the Rockhurst University Security Department website at www.rockhurst.edu/services/security for further information regarding Parking.
