is Ask A Librarian Live Chat?
This is a web-based service that allows
Rockhurst University students, faculty and staff to consult via live chat with
a librarian for research assistance. Librarians from Rockhurst University and
other Association of Jesuit College and Universities (AJCU) libraries participate
in this service.
Who can use Ask a Librarian Live
Chat? Rockhurst University currently enrolled students, faculty and staff
have access to the full service, including access to licensed databases. Others,
such as alumni, may use the service but the librarian conducting the session will
only be able to provide information that is not within the licensed databases
subscribed to by Rockhurst University. Librarians will give referrals to local
public library collections if necessary. When is the Ask a Librarian
Live Chat service available?
The service is available every day, all day,
except on designated holidays: Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Eve ( Dec 24) after 3 pm; Christmas Day; Dec 26 until 7 a.m.; New Year's Even (Dec 31) after 3 pm; New Year's Day; Jan 2 until 7 a.m.; Memorial
Day; Independence Day; and Labor Day.
What
kind of questions will be answered? The librarian can answer specific
questions (spelling of a name, dates, etc.) as well as offer assistance using
library resources for assignments or projects, including using the library's electronic
resources. If your question is more complex and requires significant time to answer
the librarian may suggest a visit to the Rockhurst University Greenlease library
where you can consult with a librarian face-to-face. What are the technical
requirements? Live chat works with: - Windows 98, Windows 2000
Professional, Windows XP-Home or Windows XP-Professional.with Internet Explorer
6.0, Netwcape 7.2 or Firefox 1.0.6.

What is the privacy policy? This
privacy statement explains what we do with the personal information collected
from our patrons when they use the AJCU Virtual Reference Service . More specifically,
it explains what personal information is collected, how it is used, and how long
it is kept. When you use the AJCU Virtual Reference Service, you are asked to
provide your name, institution affiliation, status (faculty, student, staff, etc.),
and email address. Providing your email address allows us to send you a transcript
of the session, or to send you additional information related to your question.
We will disclose your personal information only when it is necessary to answer
your request for information. For example, we may refer your question and your
personal information to a librarian at another Jesuit institution. We will not
share your email address or use it for other purposes. We also collect some information
about your computer, such as the browser version you are using, and your IP address.
We store session cookies on your machine in order to send you chat messages, web
sites and files, but these cookies will dissolve when your session ends. We keep
the transcripts and make them available to supervising librarians for quality
control, but we purge all your personal information from the system after 30 days.
If you have selected the "Anonymous" user option, the librarian will see the information
you entered in the form, but personal information is purged as soon as the session
has been ended. This privacy policy will be reviewed periodically. If any changes
occur, you will see the word "updated" next to the Privacy Policy link on the
entry page.
