There are two service centers in the library which can assist you in successfully using the library. The first is the Quick Information desk located on the main floor of the library, directly across from the main stair case. The other is the Circulation desk, also located on the main floor, immediately inside the front doors of the library. These two service desks offer different types of assistance to patrons.

The Quick Information desk is the main information center of the library where assistance is provided in conducting research on any topic. This could include searching for books, journal articles or other materials in the library's collection; database searching; Interlibrary Loans; or referrals to other libraries.

This desk is staffed weekdays 8 am - 4:30 p.m. by Reference librarians. Weekday and weekends Public Services Assistants offer basic reference assistance. These staff members are para-professional staff who have training in basic reference search skills. Patrons needing in-depth reference information should contact Kim B. Cullinan, Head of Public Services, Monday through Friday.

The Circulation desk is where you would go to set up your library account; checkout out books, audiovisuals, reserve materials for classes, or other materials; obtain change for the microform machines, purchase a copy card for the printer/copiers, or pick up Rockhurst or MOBIUS books on hold for you. Questions regarding library policies such as library cards, checkout and return, fines, etc. should be directed to the Circulation Department .

Basement (28kb) Location of government documents, microforms and archived print issues for periodicals, a microform reader/printer, and University Archives office. This is an excellent location for group study. Restrooms with handicap access.

Main Floor (36kb) Location of reference materials, research assistance, two printer/copiers, a microform reader, assistive technology, and the current issues up to the past two years of print periodicals.

Mezzanine (27kb) Location of study rooms, St. Thomas More Center, printer/copier, soda machine, and Computer Lab. No restrooms.

Top Floor (29kb) Location of circulating items that can be checked out by Rockhurst or MOBIUS patrons and one study room. Quiet Floor: No cell phone usage or group study allowed.

Additional Facilities

Study Areas
There are individual and group study areas within the building:

  • Main Floor: Individual study. Cell phone usage is allowed as long as other patrons are not disturbed.
  • Mezzanine and Basement Floors: Individual and Group Study. Cell phone usage is allowed as long as other patrons are not disturbed.
  • Top Floor: Individual Study only. This is designated quiet floor and no group study or cell phone usage is allowed.

Copying Facilities
There are three coin-operated photocopiers in the library. Two copiers are located on the main floor near the elevator. The third copier is located outside the computer lab on the mezzanine level. Microfilm and microfiche coin-operated reader-printer machines allow you to make paper copies from materials on microfilm or microfiche. One microform reader is located on the basement level and one is located on the main floor level. Directions for operating the machines are located on or next to the machine. You must make your own copies. Change is available at the Circulation desk on the main floor. The photocopy machines use either a Rockhurst ID or an Equitrac Copy Card, obtainable at a cost of $.05 per page at the Circulation desk. The microform reader-printers only accept dimes. The library does not accept checks for change.

Computer Lab
The computer lab is located on the south end of mezzanine level of the library. The lab is reserved throughout the week for instruction classes given by library staff. When classes are not held the lab is open to students and employees of the university for use in accessing software applications, the internet, email, etc. As with all labs on the university campus, this lab is not open to the public. Please see the policy concerning acceptable computer usage on campus and the schedule of instruction classes to view when the lab is closed. The computer lab closes 30 minutes prior to the closing of the rest of the library building so plan to finish your work by the time the staff closes the lab.

Computer Services maintains all of the equipment and software available in campus computer labs. If you have hardware or software problems in the lab please contact the Computer Services HelpDesk at 501-4357. Library staff is not responsible for operational problems of the computers. Paper for the copier outside the library computer lab can be obtained from the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the library.

Assistance for Persons with Disabilities

The library has a computer for the visually impaired. Patrons who need specialized equipment for word processing, internet access and other applications are encouraged to use this computer. The computer is located on the main level of the library near the Information Desk.

The library staff will be happy to assist people with disabilities in selection and gathering of library materials when needed. If you contact a librarian before you come to the library, we will try to have materials waiting for you.

Contact Kim Cullinan, Head of Public Services, for more information.
