Education Reference File
Students graduating with a degree in education can establish a Reference File with Career Services. This file will allow you to house letters of recommendation in a central location. Upon your request, Career Services will mail your file to prospective school districts.

There are two recommendation forms - the first is a reference form from your student teacher advisor, cooperating teacher or principal* (16K, pdf file), and the second is a general recommendation form* (15K, pdf file) from a person(s) of your choice. We recommend 3-5 reference forms total in your file. The recommendation forms are available as Microsoft Word documents.

There are three (3) options for completing the recommendation letters. First, the documents can be printed out, given to your reference, typed or written on, signed, and then returned to Career Services. Second, the documents can be downloaded from this site by you or your reference, opened in Microsoft Word, edited to include the reference information, printed, signed, and then returned to Career Services. If your references choose to download the documents and edit them in Word, please advise them to adjust the document so the recommendation remains only one page long. Third, your references can write on their school/organization's letterhead and forwarded to Career Services. All formats are acceptable. Ask your references which method they prefer and make sure you give them the appropriate files or hard copies.

Finally, please download, print* and appropriately sign the Authorization Form* (13K, pdf file). Then return it to Career Services, Massman 3. Important: We must receive this completed form from you before we can forward your reference file to prospective employers.

One last note in regard to sending your reference file to prospective employers: Please print, fill out completely, and sign the Reference Release Form* (13K, pdf file) and either fax or mail it to Career Services. The fax number is 816.501.4822, and the address is 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110. Important: This will ensure we forward your materials to the correct school district/address.
