Women's Basketball: Hawks down USML in overtime, 73-70
Sophomore forward Amy Hake posted 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the Rockhurst Hawks to a 73-70 overtime victory over Missouri-St. Louis in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. Box Score
Hake sank 14 of 15 free throws, including a pair with 29 seconds left in overtime. Her only field goal of the game, a 3-pointer, gave the Hawks a 45-42 lead with 8:46 left in regulation.
Sophomore forward Julie Cook scored six of her 15 points in overtime. She opened the overtime by hitting back-to-back baskets to give the Hawks a 64-60 lead. She added two foul shots with 57 seconds left to put RU in front 69-64.
Cook also finished with six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Chelsea Barnett came off the bench to score 14 points, including a 3-pointer with a minute left in regulation and another 3-pointer in overtime.
Senior center Courtney Farmer tallied 14 points before fouling out with 5:11 in regulation.
The Hawks made 37.1 percent of their field goals (23 of 62), while UMSL connected on 24 of 56 shots (42.9 percent). The Hawks also won the rebound battle, 41-39.
Rockhurst, 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC, will host Truman State Saturday at 2 p.m.
