Women's Basketball: Hawks post 63-54 victory over Truman State

Senior center Courtney Farmer scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Rockhurst Hawks to a 63-54 victory over Truman State Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. Box Score

Farmer scored seven of her 10 field goals in the first nine and a half minutes of the second half to give the Hawks a 53-38 lead. She ended up hitting 10 of 19 shots from the field, in addition to collecting five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Sophomore forwards Amy Hake (11) and Julie Cook (10) also finished in double-figure scoring. They also combined for 13 assists, seven rebounds and five steals.

Rockhurst ended the first half on a 16-6 run to take a 29-27 lead into halftime. Hake hit a 3-pointer to cap an 11-4 run to open the second half to give the Hawks a 40-32 lead with 16:13 left to play.

Truman State rallied late to cut RU's lead to 57-52 with just under five minutes remaining. Cook made a layup and a 3-pointer down the stretch to ice the game for Rockhurst.

The Hawks made 44.1 percent of their field goals (26 of 59), while Truman State connected on 21 of 49 shots (42.9 percent). The Bulldogs won the rebound battle, 38-27.

Rockhurst, 4-5, will host Spring Hill in the Jesuit Classic at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30. Regis and Loyola of New Orleans tip off the tournament at 1 p.m. on Dec. 30.
