Women's Basketball: Hawks capture exhibition opener
Five players scored in double figures to lead Rockhurst to an 82-75 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene in the Hawks' exhibition opener Monday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. Box Score
Freshman guard Ali Fromm led the Hawks with 14 points, including 8 of 8 from the foul line. Sophomores Julie Cook and Amy Hake both tallied 13 points. Freshman forward Tori Hartin chipped in with 12 points and senior center Courtney Farmer added 10 points.
Cook broke a 68-all tie with a three-point basket with 3:21 left to play. The Hawks put the game away at the free-throw line, hitting their final eight foul shots in the last two and a half minutes.
Rockhurst connected on 23 of 58 field goals for 39.7 percent shooting, while the Lady Pioneers made 21 of 65 shots for 32.3 percent field-goal shooting. The Hawks also won the rebound battle by a 49-46 margin, paced by freshman center Meghan Hurley's 11 rebounds.
The Hawks play their final exhibition game against Missouri-Kansas City on Thursday, Nov. 2 at UMKC's Swinney Gymnasium.
