Volleyball: Levy leads Hawks past back Illinois-Springfield
Emily Levy posted 11 kills and 13.5 points to lead Rockhurst to a 3-0 win over Illinois-Springfield in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Levy play in the middle carried the Hawks to 25-12, 25-17 and 25-15 wins. She had four blocks and ranks second in the GLVC with 1.13 blocks per set.
Nicci Hartley collected seven kills and three blocks. Maggie McGovern finished with six kills and three service aces. Alyssa Emerson added 17 assists and seven digs. Andrea Schroeder had eight digs and three service aces.
On Friday, McGovern collected 10 kills and 11.5 points to carry Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory over Quincy at Mason-Halpin.
The Hawks rolled to a 25-6 win in the first set, and went on to 25-16 and 25-18 wins in the next two sets.
Emerson finished with 30 assists and Lindsey Schwent had a team-high 14 digs. Hartley added nine kills and 12 points. Levy posted five blocks and 9.5 points.
On Tuesday, McGovern totaled 19 kills and eight digs to lead Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory at home over Missouri Southern.
The Hawks closed out the match on a 24-6 run after the Lions had a 24-6 run of their own to open the fourth set.
Rockhurst won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22. Southern came back to even the match with 26-24 and 25-15 wins. The Hawks captured the fifth set, 15-5.
Katy Hernandez collected 13 kills. Levy finished with 12 kills and eight blocks. Emerson added 39 assists and 14 digs.
The Hawks, 17-11 and 7-3 in the GLVC, play at Fort Hays State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Rockhurst has now won 12 of its last 15 matches.
