Softball: Hawks rank fifth among Division II schools for team GPA
The Rockhurst Hawks finished with the fifth highest grade point average in the country among NCAA Division II schools as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced the NFCA "Girls Got Game" Top Ten All-Academic Team.
The NFCA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom. The Hawks accumulated a 3.520 GPA for the 2008-09 academic year.
Ouachita Baptist finished first among NCAA Division II schools with a 3.663 GPA, followed by Arkansas-Monticello (3.579), Barry (3.555) and Grand Valley State (3.525).
Rockhurst has finished in the Top 10 three of the past four years. The Hawks placed eighth in the country in team GPA in 2007-08 and fifth in the country in team GPA in 2005-06.
"Finishing in the top 10 nationally in team GPA is a notable accomplishment," said Rockhurst coach Galen Struve. "I think this speaks well for the intelligence, work ethic and the character of this team. I am thrilled for these young ladies and proud that they represent Rockhurst University as true student-athletes."
