Softball: Hawks earn first berth in GLVC Tournament
The Rockhurst Hawks earned their first berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday in Peoria, Ill. The Hawks are seeded sixth in the eight-team field and will face third-seeded Missouri S&T at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
A 7-3 victory at Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday secured a postseason invitation for Rockhurst. The Hawks finished in a four-way tie for sixth place in the GLVC with a 12-12 conference record. Wins over Lewis and Missouri S&T in the final week of the regular season helped Rockhurst edge Missouri-St. Louis, Wisconsin-Parkside and Quincy for the No. 6 spot in the GLVC tourney.
The Hawks, 27-18 overall, hit a season-high four home runs in their 7-3 win at Parkside. Sophomores Holly Hilton and Jaclyn Johnson homered along with seniors Erica Stone and Jessi Harris. Junior Heather Robertson went the distance to earn her team-high 15th win of the season.
Parkside captured Sunday's first game, 8-2. Junior Emily Dye allowed six runs in five innings as her record fell to 12-7.
