Softball: Hawks hand out postseason awards
Juniors Emily Dye and Nicole Randolph received the top two postseason awards after the Hawks finished with their first winning season since the program's inception in 2005.
Dye was honored with the Foundation Award, which goes to the player who shows the most leadership on and off the field. Dye finished with a 13-8 record and 1.75 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 124.1 innings. She was named the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team.
Randolph, a three-year starter at second base, received the Higher Ground Award for being the most improved player on the team. She finished with a career-high .286 batting average in 48 games. She posted a .971 fielding average while collecting 99 putouts and 100 assists.
Junior pitcher Heather Robertson and sophomore right fielder Holly Hilton also earned All-GLVC recognition as third-team selections. Robertson led the team with 15 wins and 103 strikeouts while tying Dye with a team-low 1.75 ERA. Hilton ended up with a team-best .329 batting average, 48 hits, 28 runs scored and 15 doubles. She tied senior first baseman Erica Stone with team highs in home runs (5) and RBI (23).
Rockhurst finished with a school-record 28 wins and earned its first berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Peoria, Ill. The Hawks won their first game in the tournament, 1-0 over Missouri S&T, before being eliminated with losses to Southern Illinois Edwardsville and Missouri-St. Louis.
