Women’s Soccer: Hawks place sixth in GLVC Coaches’ Poll
Rockhurst came in sixth place in the 2008 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Poll.
Head coach Greg Herdlick returns 19 letterwinners and 10 starters from last season’s team, which finished seventh in the GLVC.
Forward Lisa Schwarz returns for her senior year. She led the team with 21 points on six goals and nine assists last year. Senior midfielders Sarah Anderson and Katie Vogt, sophomore defender Chelsey Schumacher and junior goalkeeper Alyssa Miller also enjoyed productive seasons in 2007.
Herdlick’s top newcomers are freshmen Anna Alfonsin, defender from Overland Park, Kan.; JoJo Palko, forward from Wichita, Kan.; Christie Moreland, forward from St. Louis, Mo.; and Taylor Stitt, midfielder from Kansas City, Kan.
The Hawks (10-7-1, 7-6 GLVC in 2007) open the regular-season at Nebraska-Omaha on Aug. 31. Rockhurst begins conference play on Sept. 14 at home against Missouri-St. Louis.
The top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the 2008 GLVC Tournament which is scheduled to begin on Nov. 2. The highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round will host the GLVC semifinals and final on Nov. 7 and 9, respectively.
