Men's Basketball: Hawks shut down St. Mary, 66-40
The Rockhurst Hawks held St. Mary to 14.8-percent shooting in rolling to a 66-40 victory over the Spires on the first day of the Rock U Classic Friday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Rockhurst opened the game on a 17-2 run and took a 37-19 lead into halftime. The Hawks jumped out to a 29-point lead several times in the second half.
Senior forward Kevin Martin and junior center John Torson led the Hawks with 13 points apiece. Sophomore guard Aaron Hill added 11 points. Senior forward Jon-Erik Price posted a team-high eight rebounds and Torson recorded four blocked shots.
Rockhurst shot 44.1 percent from the field (26 of 50), while the Spires made eight of 54 field goals. The Hawks also won the rebound battle, 48-38, in moving their record to 3-1.

The Hawks will host Southwest Baptist on Saturday at 4 p.m. after Park and St. Mary tipoff at 2 p.m. Southwest Baptist defeated Park 97-85 on Friday.
