Men's Basketball: Hawks turn back Nebraska-Omaha, 76-63
Junior center John Torson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Rockhurst Hawks to a 76-63 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Saturday night in the American Family Insurance Hoopster Classic in St. Cloud, Minn. Box Score
The Hawks, 1-1, posted their first win of the season behind 90-percent shooting from the free-throw line (27 of 30). Rockhurst put the game away in the final minute by hitting all six of its free throws.
Junior guard Joey Deas hit all nine of his free throws to finish with 16 points. Torson went 8-for-9 from the foul stripe. Deas and Torson were both named to the All-Tournament team.
Senior forwards Kevin Martin and Jon-Erik Price both scored 14 points and combined for 12 rebounds.
A 14-0 run in the first half carried Rockhurst to a 20-13 lead with 7:30 left in the half. Torson scored 11 points to give the Hawks a 36-25 halftime lead.
The Hawks finished with a field-goal percentage of 47.9 percent on 23-of-48 shooting. UNO hit 24 of 50 from the field for 48.0 percent accuracy. Rockhurst outrebounded the Mavericks 36-21.
