Men's Basketball: Hawks roll past Southwest Baptist, 79-53
Junior guard Joey Deas scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Rockhurst Hawks to a 79-53 victory over Southwest Baptist on the second day of the Rock U Classic Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Deas made his first seven shots and finished 9 of 11 from the field. Seven of his shots were from beyond the 3-point line. He also contributed four assists, four rebounds and three steals.
The Hawks jumped out to a 44-19 halftime lead behind Deas, who made all six of his field goals and scored 17 points.
Senior forwards Kevin Martin and Jon-Erik Price both scored 12 points. Junior center John Torson posted a team-high nine rebounds and eight points. Sophomore guard Aaron Hill also totaled eight points.
Rockhurst shot 58.9 percent from the field (33 of 56) and 51.7 percent on 3-point field goals (10 of 18). Southwest Baptist was held to 37.5 percent shooting (21 of 56). The Hawks outrebounded the Bearcats, 36-27.
The Hawks will take a 4-1 record into a road game at Missouri Southern at 7 p.m. Monday in Joplin, Mo.
