Men's Basketball: Hawks post 64-49 win at Missouri Southern
Senior forward Kevin Martin scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to power the Rockhurst Hawks to a 64-49 victory over Missouri Southern Monday night in Joplin, Mo. Box Score
The Hawks jumped out to a 28-20 halftime lead behind Martin's eight points and five rebounds.
Junior center John Torson, who closed out the first half with a jump shot and 3-pointer, posted a game-high six blocked shots. He also totaled nine points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The backcourt of Joey Deas and Aaron Hill combined for 30 points and six 3-point shots. The pair culminated an 11-0 run late in the game to give the Hawks an insurmountable 11-point lead, 55-44, with 2:31 left to play.
Rockhurst shot 35.6 percent from the field (21 of 59) and 33.3 percent on 3-point field goals (7 of 21). Missouri Southern finished at 42.0 percent (21 of 50). The Hawks outrebounded the Bears, 43-29.
The Hawks will take a 5-1 record into their first Great Lakes Valley Conference game Thursday at Wisconsin-Parkside at 7:30 p.m.
