Men's Basketball: Hawks hold off UMSL Tritons, 68-60

Aaron Morrissey and Aaron Hill led Rockhurst from 3-point land to lead the Hawks to a 68-60 victory over Missouri-St. Louis Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Morrissey hit six-of-eight 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 20 points. He also posted seven rebounds and three steals. He made four of his 3-pointers in the first eight minutes of the second half to help give the Hawks a 50-38 lead.

Hill canned five-of-eight 3-point shots while scoring 19 points. He also hit three 3-pointers early in the second half.

Missouri-St. Louis rallied from a nine-point deficit, 61-52, at the 2:24. The Tritons pulled to within five points with a minute left and had a chance to cut RU's lead to three before being called for an offensive foul which resulted in a technical foul on the USML bench.

Rockhurst shot 48.9 percent from the field (22 of 45). The Tritons were 24-of-59 for 40.7 percent shooting.

The Hawks, 15-9 and second in the GLVC West at 10-5, play at Maryville on Monday at 8 p.m.

Hawks take No. 2 Southern Indiana to the wire

On Saturday, the Hawks gave second-ranked Southern Indiana all it could handle in Evansville, Ind.

Southern Indiana scored 10 of the last 12 points of the game to hold off Rockhurst, 78-71. The undefeated Screaming Eagles are now 21-0.

A layup by Blake Baird gave the Hawks a 69-68 lead with 2:15 left. The Eagles regained the lead on a 3-pointer at the 2:03 mark.

Tyler Knust cut USI's lead to 73-71 with a layup with 38 seconds left. The Eagles made five-of-six free throws in the final 36 seconds, while the Hawks missed five 3-point shots in the final 1:03.

Aaron Hill led the Hawks with 22 points on seven-of-18 shooting. Aaron Morrissey posted 14 points and 10 rebounds. Baird came off the bench to collect 14 points and seven rebounds. Knust added nine points, five assists and two steals.

Hawks fall at Indianapolis, 79-64

On Thursday, Indianapolis held Rockhurst to two field goals over the final 10 minutes in racing to a 79-64 victory over the Hawks in Indianapolis.

The Greyhounds went on a 15-2 run down the stretch to hold off a Rockhurst rally. The Hawks, who trailed by 14 points in the first half, only trailed by six points, 64-58, with 8:55 left in the game.

Aaron Hill led the Hawks with 12 points on three-of-eight shooting. Aaron Morrissey scored 10 points on five-of-11 shooting. Jake Meyer collected nine points and six rebounds. Tyler Knust added nine points and five assists.
