Women's Basketball: Park named new head coach at Rockhurst
parkRockhurst Director of Athletics Richard Konzem announced May 15 that Larry Park has been hired as the new women’s head basketball coach at Rockhurst University.

Park has coached for the past 26 seasons on the collegiate level. He has been an assistant coach for the Rockhurst men’s program since 1996. He also was an admission and financial aid counselor, and assistant men’s basketball coach, at Rockhurst from 1989-91.

"Larry brings a wealth of experience as a college basketball coach," Konzem said. "He has been a part of the Rockhurst family for many years. Larry played a key role in our men’s program reaching the NCAA Tournament two of the past three years."

Park played an important role in Rockhurst’s successful conversion from an NAIA Division I affiliate to an NCAA Division II member in 1998. He has been involved in all aspects of the men’s program under head coach Bill O'Connor.

Prior to joining the Rockhurst men’s staff in 1996, Park spent five seasons as an assistant men’s coach at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. He also was an assistant men’s coach at Ottawa University (1986-89) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (1982-85).

Earlier this year, Park received the Walt Tylicki Memorial Award from the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association for his long-time service as a coach and educator who has devoted an entire career to helping people become better students and athletes.

Park graduated with a bachelor's degree in American history from UMKC, where he was a two-year lettermen in basketball from 1980-82. He is married to Kelli, and they have four children: Brennain, Curtis, Tucker and Tori.
