Men’s Basketball: Hawks fall to USI in NCAA Midwest Regional
The Rockhurst Hawks’ dream of getting past the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional was denied by Southern Indiana Saturday night in Findlay, Ohio.
The fourth-seeded Screaming Eagles rallied from eight points down in the second half to defeat fifth-seeded Rockhurst 78-72.
Junior guard Jamar Smith spearheaded a 10-0 run by the Eagles, who went from a 55-47 deficit to a 57-55 lead with 8:34 left in the game. Smith finished with a game-high 21 points.
Senior guard Joshua Kwajah led the Hawks with 16 points. Junior forward Jake Meyer scored 14 points. Senior forwards Alden Smith and Drew Martin both finished with 10 points.
Southern Indiana outrebounded the Hawks, 43-19, and held RU's leading scorer, Aaron Hill, to eight points on one-of-seven shooting.
"We had a solid year. I really enjoyed working with this team. They were a very unselfish group," said Rockhurst coach Bill O’Connor.
Rockhurst finished the season with a 19-11 record.
