Men’s Tennis: No. 24 Hawks fall to Drury, 5-4, in NCAA regional finals
The 24th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks fell short against Drury, suffering a 5-4 loss in the NCAA Midwest Regional finals at Rockhurst on Friday.
Drury rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win the final four singles matches. The deciding match came in No. 1 singles when Rockhurst sophomore Arturo Baravalle fell to Drury's Alex Kacamakis, 7-5 and 7-5.
Rockhurst rallied to win in No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker behind sophomores Zach and Ben Newell. Drury, which defaulted three matches, also came from behind to win in No. 2 doubles, 9-7, over RU's Baravalle and Victor Klintcharov.
The Hawks finish the season with a 19-7 record. The 26th-ranked Panthers, 18-7, advance to the NCAA Championships in Florida, May 13-16.
On Thursday, the Hawks defeated Indianapolis, 5-0, in a first-round match in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
Rockhurst won all three doubles matches to grab a 3-0 lead over Indy. Adam Bales and Ryan Field rallied to win No. 3 doubles, 9-7. Ben Newell won No. 4 singles, 6-2 and 6-2, and Bales captured No. 6 singles, 6-1 and 6-0.
