Men's Basketball: Hawks post 71-62 road win at Missouri-St. Louis
Senior forward Alden Smith posted 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks to lead the Rockhurst Hawks to a 71-62 victory over the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday in St. Louis.
The win moves the Hawks into first place in the GLVC West Division with an 11-3 record. Rockhurst has now won four in a row and stands 16-8 overall.
Rockhurst jumped out to a 39-32 halftime lead and grabbed a 53-36 lead on a layup by senior forward Drew Martin in the second half. The Tritons rallied to get within four points at the 6:32 mark before the Hawks went on a 7-0 run.
Junior guard Jazz Neal collected 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Junior guard Aaron Hill hit three three-pointers to finish with 12 points. Junior forward Jake Meyer added 11 points and seven rebounds.
On Wednesday, Hill scored 22 points to lead the Hawks to an 84-68 victory over Park at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Hill hit eight-of-13 shots from the field, highlighted by six three-pointers. He scored 15 points on five three-pointers to give the Hawks a 33-29 halftime lead.
Rockhurst opened the second half on a 14-0 run to give the Hawks a 47-29 lead at the 15:41 mark. Park pulled within eight points, 52-44, before Rockhurst scored the next seven points.
Smith posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Drew Martin added 12 points and eight rebounds. Neal and junior guard Tyler Knust each scored 11 points.
The Hawks play the Drury Panthers in Springfield, Mo., on Thursday at 8 p.m. before returning home to face Quincy on Saturday.
