Rockhurst Ranks Among Top 10 Academically in Women’s Basketball and Softball

Teammates (from left) Stephanie Atchley, Hannah Luttenegger, Jessi Harris and Erica Stone graduated in May.

The Rockhurst women’s basketball and softball teams both finished in the top 10 in grades among NCAA Division II schools in 2007-08. The Hawks finished seventh in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll with a 3.526 team GPA.

“This is a tremendous honor for our women,” said women’s basketball coach Rebecca Morrisey, whose program also placed in the Top 25 in 2002, 2003 and 2007. “I am proud of the team’s commitment to excellence in the classroom.”

Rockhurst finished with the eighth highest GPA in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association “Girls Got Game” Top 10 All-Academic team. The team earned a 3.406 GPA, and nine players earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete Awards with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

“Finishing in the top 10 nationally in team GPA is a notable accomplishment,” said softball coach Galen Struve. “I think this speaks well for the intelligence, work ethic and character of this team. I am thrilled for these ladies and proud they represent Rockhurst as true student-athletes.”
