’51 Joseph A. Lastelic, a retired Washington correspondent
for The Kansas City Star, wrote a history of Holy Family
Parish in Kansas City, Kan.,
for its centennial. Lastelic did the research and relied on
stories from family members who were parish pioneers.
’67 Ed McKee of South Riding, Va., is now director of athletic development at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After 22 years in the GW Department of Athletics serving in a variety of positions, he transferred to the university’s Division of Development and Alumni Relations. McKee works with head coaches to raise funds for the Colonials’ 22 varsity sports programs and renovations of the 33-year-old Charles E. Smith Center, athletic home
of eight teams.
James C. Wirken was named to the Kansas City Business
Journal’s 2008 “Best of the Bar,”
and to “Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers” for 2008.
’69 Michael Francis Brosnahan and Wedbush Capital Partners purchased the Hawaiian brand Reyn Spooner. Brosnahan will serve as president and chief executive officer of Reyn Spooner, a fixture in the Hawaii retail market that is often credited with the creation of “Aloha Friday.”
’70 David R. Huff accepted the position of volunteer medical consultant for Hope House, a Christian-based ministry in Ixtlahuacan, Mexico, that provides permanent and foster care for young boys age 6-18. Huff, who was a physician assistant and medical administrator with the U.S. Federal Prison system, is retired and lives in Mexico with his wife, Catherine.
’73 Nina Marsh has three children who have graduated from Rockhurst: Anna, ’01, Henry (Hal), ’02, and Joseph (Joe), ’08. Anna’s husband, Stewart Purcell, ’01, and Hal’s wife, Jenny (Damico) Marsh, ’00, also graduated from Rockhurst. Anna and Stewart had their first child, Emma, on April 7, 2008. Marsh’s daughter, Elizabeth (Beth), married Bryan Goin on March 29, 2008.

Paul S. Thomas earned master of theology and doctor of divinity degrees from Canon Bible Seminary. He is senior pastor of the Quijotoa Mission on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation and member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He has two grandchildren, Elijah and Virginia.
’79 Charlene McCullough (Nesbit) Stehlick graduated from
McKendree University in May 2008 with a master of arts degree in education. She also was initiated into Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education.
’84 Robert F. Foster and wife,
Patty, have been married 24 years. All three of their children are Rockhurst students. Robert
F. Foster II is a senior, Mark Anthony is a junior, and
Christina is a sophomore.
Mark Anthony and Christina both play RU soccer.
’86 MBA George Richter was named president and chief operating officer of the Pork Division of Farmland Foods in April 2008.

named associate provost and associate academic vice president
of academic affairs for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., which enrolls more than 10,000 students in 10 schools.

’93 MBA William “Bill” Mendel and wife, Doris, have been married for 23 years. Mendel has four children ranging from ages 18 to 6. He works for UBS Financial Services
in Leawood. Mendel puts together financial plans to help individuals achieve their dreams and goals.
’95 MBA Tim Barnett was named general manager for Maxi-Seal Harness Systems Inc. in May.
’97 Christy Dawn (Cramer)
Preston and her husband, Scott, reside in Lansing, Kan., with their daughter, Bailey. She is an attorney with the state of Kansas in Leavenworth, and her
husband is currently deployed
in Iraq. The family plans to move to Heidelberg, Germany, in summer 2009.
Marc Schumer and wife, Jill, have three children, Grant,
10, Brecken, 6, and Madden, born Oct. 2, 2008. Schumer is
account director for Wunderman,
an international marketing
and ad agency in Chicago, and works through the VML offices in Kansas City.
’98 Christopher Todd Wilson and his wife, Julie (Reid), were married in 1999. They have one daughter, born in March 2004. Wilson is the supply officer and a plankowner for Riverine Squadron One, where he helped re-establish the Navy’s riverine warfare capability. He recently returned from Iraq where Riverine Squadron One patrolled the Euphrates River for eight months. He received the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command’s Outstanding Logistics Excellence Award for 2007.
’99 MBA James C. Sbarro was named president of Farmland Foods
in April 2008.
’00 MOT Brian Scott Mills received the inaugural Bonnie Danley Fieldwork Educator Award from the University of Kansas occupational therapy program. Mills and his wife, Melissa, have two children.
’02, ’07 M.Ed. Sara Stoolman is teaching for two years at Korea International School. She teaches third grade and coaches high school soccer.

’05, ’08 MBA Jacqueline Riedel moved to New Jersey to begin her residency after graduating in May from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and Rockhurst with dual DO/MBA degrees.
’05 EMBA Kelly Ellison launched

’07 MBA Todd Darian Shaffer was promoted to full professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Shaffer received a National Silver Program Directors Award from the Academy of Family Medicine Residency Directors at its national meeting in June. He also was elected as the secretary/treasurer of the medical executive committee at Truman Medical Center.
