Rockhurst Hawks, Jayhawks Partner in Service

Students from Rockhurst University joined forces Sept. 12 with students from the University of Kansas to restore a house in Lawrence, Kan., that will benefit homeless families. The collaboration was the result of an exchange initiative by students in the Rockhurst Honors Program that will allow students from the two universities to meet and serve the community, alternating between sites in Kansas City and Lawrence.

Approximately 40 students worked on 32 projects at the house on behalf of the Family Promise Organization, which provides aid and shelter to homeless families. They installed a stone sidewalk and a gravel drive, planted two gardens on the side of the house, painted the back porch and cleaned and raked the front yard.

Rockhurst students will host the next project Nov. 7 at KC Wildlands Honeysuckle Battle. Students interested in participating can contact Kaela Severa at several@hawks.rockhurst.edu.
