GPS Becomes College of Health and Human ServicesJuly 7, 2015

As of July 1, Rockhurst University’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies officially has a new name.

In early June, the Rockhurst University Board of Trustees voted to adopt a new moniker for the academic unit that includes the occupational and physical therapy, education, exercise science and communication sciences and disorders departments and the leadership studies program— the College of Health and Human Services.

The new name better reflects for prospective students and the community the scope of programs housed within the division, which encompasses both undergraduate- and graduate-level degrees ranging from education to health-focused fields like physical and occupational therapy.

In addition to the name change, several of the programs once grouped under the GPS banner will shift to the University’s other academic divisions. The criminal justice and paralegal studies department will join the department of political science and the sociology and cultural sciences department in the department of politics, justice and society, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Also on July 1, the nonprofit leadership studies program was moved to the Helzberg School of Management.
