Professor emeritus of finance at the Helzberg School of Management at Rockhurst University, Lyon received his doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia and undergraduate degree from Rockhurst College.
Lyon's teaching interests include finance, strategy and entrepreneurship. He is an active consultant who has worked with many firms including Hallmark Cards, Aventis, Sprint, Black & Veatch and DST Systems, Inc., among others. He has facilitated small business groups and served on numerous boards. Lyon has also worked with and taught courses at the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and has written numerous articles and cases pertaining to financial management, performance measurement, emerging growth companies and strategy.
Tom remains actively involved in case writing and research. The co-founder and director of the MBA and Executive Fellows programs, Lyon served as chair, division chair and as interim dean of the School of Management.
