How do I know if I have completed all graduation requirements?
The Registrar’s office will complete a final audit of your course credits; you will receive a letter if an issue is identified. (Check with the Registrar’s office at 816-501-4048).
Can I participate in the May 2017 Commencement ceremony if I don’t finish my classes until December 2017?
No, students planning to complete their degree requirements in December 2016, May 2017 or August 2017 (with the Registrar’s approved final audit) are invited and encouraged to attend.
When and where do I receive my attire order?
After ordering your attire from the Herff Jones Company it will be shipped to the University Bookstore. Attire will be available for pick up at the Rockhurst Bookstore beginning April 12, 2017. Deadline for picking up your attire will be May 8, 2017.
How do I purchase graduation announcements?
Announcements may be ordered online from the Herff Jones Company. Orders must be placecd by midnight, April 13, 2017.
When do I get my actual diploma?
All diplomas (if there are no holds) will be mailed to your permanent address on file with the Registrar’s office by the end of June.
What time does the Baccalaureate Mass begin? How long will it run?
Baccalaureate Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1001 East 52nd Street, Kansas City, MO, 64110 (across from the Rockhurst University Campus). Baccalaureate Mass will last approximately 1 hour.
Do I wear my cap & gown to Baccalaureate Mass?
Degree Candidates should wear their graduation attire to Mass minus their hood (men, please remember to remove your cap in church).
When should guests arrive for Baccalaureate Mass?
Doors to St. Francis Xavier church will open for seating at 1 p.m.
When and where do I, the student, need to arrive for the Baccalaureate Mass?
All participants (graduates, faculty & staff) who plan to participate in the procession from campus to St. Francis Church should meet at 1 p.m. in front of Conway Hall. Faculty should meet and line up on Massman Hall porch. Procession to the church will begin at 1:45 p.m.
Where and what time does Commencement begin? How long will it last?
Commencement ceremony is held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Municipal Auditorium, 301 W. 13th Street, Kansas City, Mo. The Academic Procession will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The Commencement ceremony will last approximately 2-2½ hours.
What if my name is hard to pronounce?
If you think the reader will have a difficult time pronouncing your name, please call your respective dean’s office and pronounce your name clearly into the voice mailbox the week before Commencement. As you line up for the Academic Procession, prior to the ceremony, you will be handed a card with your name printed on it. Please hand your card to the dean at the podium onstage for them to read, continue across the stage to shake the President's hand and smile as they take your picture.
When should I, the student, arrive for Commencement? Where should I go?
All participants should plan to arrive at the Municipal Auditorium by noon (graduates, faculty & staff). Follow the signs (volunteers will also be available to assist in directions) to the auditorium mezzanine level where you will begin to line up for the Academic Procession.
When should guests arrive for the Commencement ceremony? Where should they go?
The doors of Municipal Auditorium open for guests at noon. Parking is available in the downtown Kansas City parking lots located near the auditorium. There is a parking fee; parking lots with honor boxes will accept only cash or check. As always, please remember not to leave valuables in your car. Rockhurst is not responsible for items left unattended at Municipal Auditorium. Handicapped parking is available in the Barney Allis Plaza garage on level 2 at the south end. These parking spaces are near the tunnel that leads to Municipal Auditorium and the convention center.
Do guests need a ticket? Where should they sit?
You may invite as many guests as you wish, tickets are not required. Seating is reserved for graduates. Guests may seat themselves on a first-come first-served basis. Handicapped accessible seating for graduation is located on the upper level. Please use the elevator in the west hallway to access this seating. These spaces are clearly marked.
Can my guests take photos during the ceremony? Will there be a professional photographer at Commencement? How can I order pictures?
For your benefit, we have made arrangements with GradImages, a professional photographer, to be at the ceremony to take candid photographs of you at your special moment of recognition. You will have the opportunity to purchase photos from the photographer as well as photographs from the Rockhurst University website. Since photographs will be available, family member and guests are encouraged to remain in their seats, relax and enjoy the ceremony.
Is there a reception after the Commencement ceremony?
Immediately following the Commencement ceremony, the graduates will process out of Municipal Auditorium and walk en masse from commencement to the Kansas City’s Power & Light District on the Hawk Walk. Family, friends and guests may join the graduates outside the auditorium or meet them at the reception destination!
How do my guests and I get to the Hawk Walk?
The Power & Light District is located a short 0.4 miles (5 blocks) from Municipal Auditorium. Graduates continue to wear your caps & gowns as we walk en masse to the inside covered patio. Wear your walking shoes!
What do I do once I arrive at the Power & Light District?
It is time to celebrate an amazing accomplishment! Rockhurst has the living room and KC Live! area reserved for family, friends, and faculty of the 2017 RU graduates. Join in the celebratory "hat toss", mingle, take photos and enjoy the celebration! A cash bar will be available.
What should I do if my guests and I want to eat at one of the restaurants once we are there?
You are encouraged to make reservations at one of the restaurants in advance. If you know what restaurant, you can call the restaurant directly to make reservations for your party. For groups of 20 or more, please email Laurie Olson at email@example.com.
