Connecting Community with Classroom through Service
The Center for Service Learning at Rockhurst University was formally established in 1994 to promote and organize community service projects and course-based service learning at Rockhurst. The mission of the Center for Service Learning is to empower individuals to move toward social action, enhancing their sense of meaning and purpose through service-learning, community service, and civic engagement. The Center provides a clearinghouse of service opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. In addition to promoting service, the Center helps students track service hours through the Service Transcript Program.
Who We Are
The Director assists faculty to implement service learning courses, is a liaison with community organizations, manages the Service Transcript Program and assists with campus wide projects.
Student assistants produce Of Service, the monthly online listing of service opportunities and Reflections, the quarterly newsletter; the assist with the Service Transcript Program and campus wide projects.
The Center for Service Learning also works closely with Community Relations and Outreach. Alicia Douglas, Director of Community Relations and Outreach, oversees Community Work Study and campus wide service projects.
