Nationally renowned investigative journalist, blogger and speaker Radley Balko will deliver his lecture “The Failed War on Drugs and the Militarization of America’s Police Forces,” which contends that America’s “war on drugs” cultivates a climate that threatens basic civil liberties.
Balko’s work on paramilitary raids and the overuse of SWAT teams was featured in The New York Times and has been praised by outlets ranging from American Conservative to the Daily Kos. His work also was cited by Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer’s dissent in the case of Hudson v. Michigan in which Booker T. Hudson contended that the State of Michigan had violated his rights by failing to properly adhere to the “knock and announce” rule.
