Artist Kelley Johnson Presents "Paintings"Greenlease Gallery
Friday, September 12, 2014 @ noon - 5 p.m.
Kelley Johnson will present his new works in an exhibition simply titled "Paintings." Johnson’s works explore ways in which painting can illustrate atmospheres and sensations. Through the repetition of shapes, Johnson creates melodious rhythms in his pieces. Juxtaposed geometric lines and spontaneously blurred arcs evoke feelings of depth and vibration. Johnson's colors either amplify or silence patterns. Swathes of emerald green interrupt muddy grays, and dashes of hot pink race against black. Some elements in his paintings willfully declare their presence; other elements whisper and glide by. Johnson carefully chooses these attributes in order to demonstrate how his paintings are components of a living language and are not static canvases that hang on a wall.
The exhibit continues through Saturday, Oct. 18.
