A Celebration of Rockhurst Men's Basketball

2014 marks a significant milestone in the history of our men's basketball program - the 50th Anniversary of the historic run by the 1963-1964 men's basketball team to capture the NAIA National Championship. Rockhurst will be hosting a two-day celebration to commemorate these events and honor all of those that have contributed so much to our basketball program from past to present. All past basketball players, alumni, friends and family members are invited to join us for this special celebration in March.

Men's Basketball Banquet Luncheon
12 p.m., Convocation Center
A brunch to honor the accomplishments and history of the Rockhurst men's basketball program. Guests will have the opportunity to hear Gary Burns, Director of Athletics; Bill O' Connor, Men's Basketball Head Coach, and past RU basketball players including Jim Karl, '57, Al Payne, '66, and Mark Teahen, '82. A special film tribute highlighting the history of RU basketball will also be featured.
Cost of attendance is $20 for adults (21+) and $10 for all guests under 21.
Following the brunch and program, tours of campus led by student ambassadors will be available. All guests are also invited to make their way across Troost to Mike's Tavern and continue to catch up with one another and share memories of Rockhurst basketball.
For those wishing to attend Mass Sunday morning, St. Francis Xavier does offer at 10:30 a.m. service.

1964 National Championship Recognition at the College Basketball Experience
10:30 a.m., College Basketball Experience (adjacent to the Sprint Center)
All Rockhurst basketball alumni, family members and friends are invited to the College Basketball Experience for a tour and special unveiling of a tribute display to the 1964 national champions.
The College Basketball Experience is home to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and houses over 41,500 square feet of history honoring the legendary teams, players and coaches in college basketball history.
Following the tour and ceremony, guests will be able to find several lunchtime options across Grand Boulevard at the Kansas City Power and Light District.
5 p.m. - 6 p.m., 12th St. Room, Downtown Marriott
Rockhurst will host a reception at the Downtown Marriott prior to the semifinals of the NAIA Tournament being held that evening at Municipal Auditorium. Guests will have the opportunity to visit with alumni, faculty and staff, and members of the 1964 National Championship team.
There is no registration cost for the reception, food will be provided, and a cash bar available.
1964 National Championship Tribute at the NAIA Tournament
6 p.m., Municipal Auditorium
Members of the 1964 championship will be specially recognized in a ceremony during halftime of the first game of the NAIA tournament semifinals. Recognition will take place at approx. 6:30 p.m.
Reception attendees will make their way over to Municipal Auditorium at 6 p.m. A Rockhurst procession will be led by current Rockhurst students in a recreation of the "Hike for the Hawks."
Guests may purchase tickets for admisison to the NAIA tournament from Rockhust for $8. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, Mar. 14.
