The Rockhurst University Regents

The Rockhurst University Regents organization, established in 1955, is an advisory resource for the University President and other major administrators. The Regents are approximately 120 civic and business leaders who share the mission and goals of Rockhurst University and who are willing to give of their time, talents, and resources so that the vision can become a reality.

The Regents serve primarily as a link between the University and the larger community. They assist the President, the faculty and staff in matters pertaining to the welfare of the University. Each Regent is appointed to a three-year, renewable term.

A Rockhurst University Regent might demonstrate his/her active interest in the University by:

  • Sharing the educational mission of Rockhurst University and telling its story to the community.
  • Attending the Fall and Spring activities of the Regents and other special University events.
  • Assisting with the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Contributing regularly to the annual giving program and to special appeals.
  • Joining a Regent Team and participating in the Team’s activities.

Rockhurst University Staff Assistance:
Recognizing the important contributions to the University by its Regents, the President has named University officials from appropriate areas to serve as liaison staff to each Regent Team.

Rockhurst University Regents Executive Team:
Support for the efforts of individual teams and those of the Regents organization as a whole is provided by the Executive Team, which includes the leaders of the teams along with the Regent Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and past Chairpersons, who help to provide continuity and contribute valuable advice and insight. This group meets regularly and facilitates communication.

The Executive Team helps set the agenda for the Regents, organizes the structure of the Regents and assignments to groups, insures that the Regents are kept informed on relevant issues, and sponsors special educational programs for the Regents. The Executive Team is composed of Regent team leaders, current and past chairpersons, and current vice chairperson.

Rockhurst University Regents Teams:
At the time of appointment, the new Regent can choose membership in one of the Regent-led teams. They are:

The Arts and Letters Team focuses efforts on increasing attendance at Rockhurst University Center for Arts and Letters events. They encourage Regent attendance at Center for Arts and Letters events by hosting Regent events before or during Rockhurst University art show openings, musical and theatrical productions, poetry readings and Visiting Scholars presentations.

The Athletic Team focuses efforts on improving student/public attendance at Rockhurst University athletic events. They encourage Regent attendance at University athletic events by hosting Regent get-togethers during athletic events. During a capital campaign the Athletic Team may be involved in fundraising for athletic needs.

The Corporate Ethics and Social Responsibility Mentoring Team works with Rockhurst's School of Management in addressing leadership ethics. They offer seminar presentations and discussion opportunities. Members may be asked to serve as guest lecturers for School of Management classes. In addition, the Team members serve students, recent alumni and faculty at Rockhurst by offering opportunities for networking within the Kansas City community.

The Community Service Team is active in many community service projects sponsored by Rockhurst University. Members of this Team work with Rockhurst staff in providing leadership for those projects. The Community Service Team offers annual community service awards to Rockhurst faculty, staff, students and Rockhurst Regents.

The Financial Support Team annually reviews proposals for financial support from the Regents Project Fund and will make recommendations to the Executive Team of the Regents. The International Team promotes international experiences for Rockhurst students through support of international internship opportunities, international community service trips, and/or by serving as "surrogate parents/families" for international students attending Rockhurst University.
