The Rockhurst University Library Guild Book Critique and Luncheon started in 1969. The Critique is a literary review which brings to focus the Guild’s commitment to community enrichment and service. Recent authors include Maria Finn Dominquez, Barnett Helzberg Jr. and Mary Engelbreit.
The 2007 Critique was held at The Kansas City Carriage Club on April 11, 2007. A book signing and social hour began at 11 a.m. with a luncheon at noon, followed by our speaker Candice Millard reviewing her very popular book, ”River of Doubt”.
"River of Doubt" is a spellbinding documentary penned by a gifted, former writer and editor for National Geographic magazine who now resides in the Kansas City community. It is an undeniable story few have known of Roosevelt beyond the presidency. His four sons went to war, three were wounded and one was lost. This is a vastly recommended, non-fictional description of one of America's Greats, an electrifying historical adventure at its raging best.
Country Club Bank has kindly underwritten this event for several years. The 2007 Critique was chaired by Library Guild Vice President Marie Pal and co-chaired by Guild Board Member Ann Koppers.
