National Survey of Student Engagement
Freshman and senior level students are invited to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to provide feedback about the nature and quality of their undergraduate experience. In 2012, over 285,926 students from 546 institutions completed the NSSE. At Rockhurst, 152 freshman and 185 seniors completed the NSSE (46% and 51% response rate for each group). In comparison to 11 other Jesuit institutions and 156 Master’s-granting universities, students’ feedback indicates that:
- Rockhurst continues to be more effective than peers in three benchmark educational practices: active and collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction and supportive campus environment. See more detailed results from the National Survey of Student Engagement. (PDF)
- Relative to Jesuit peer group, more Rockhurst seniors report participating in high impact experiences such as service learning, learning communities, internships, research with faculty and a culminating or capstone experience.
- A clear majority of freshman and seniors indicate that the quality of the academic advising they received was good or excellent, that their entire educational experience has been positive, and if given the choice again, they would choose Rockhurst.
