The physics of medicine pre-professional and medical physics major tracks are recommended for students intending to pursue graduate studies in medicine or health care fields, medical physics, biomechanics or kinesiology. The traditional physics track is recommended for those considering graduate studies in research or applied physics.

Physics of Medicine vs. Medical Physics

These robust programs are designed for students looking to pursue graduate studies in fields such as:

  • Medicine
  • Physical therapy
  • Dentistry
  • Veterinary medicine
  • Biomechanics
  • Kinesiology
  • Optometry
  • Prosthetics and orthotics
  • Rehabilitation science

The physics of medicine pre-professional major is designed for students interested in entering a graduate program in medicine and/or health care. It offers interdisciplinary medically related coursework, giving you a well-rounded, relevant degree.

Our medical physics major is also applicable for those students interested in continuing their education into a graduate medical or health care program. It differs from the physics of medicine pre-professional major because it requires additional math and physics coursework. A degree in medical physics allows you to pursue physics graduate programs that lead to a career as a medical physicist working in the fields of radiology and nuclear medicine.
