Department of Math & Physics Our Mission
At the Department of Mathematics and Physics we are committed to serve the needs of our students by providing quality education (coursework and experiences in mathematics and physics) needed for mathematics and physics majors; majors or minors in other disciplines; and for the general education of all students. We have designed our courses to cover both the practical and the conceptual, thus providing our students with the intellectual tools necessary to apply their knowledge as well as to become life-long learners.
We are also committed to helping our mathematics and physics majors achieve an understanding of the subject that will enable them to attend graduate school, teach at the secondary level, or enter a career in business, industry or government. We seek to educate our students in a way that is consistent with the University’s mission and within the framework of Jesuit values.
“Whether through specific courses, summer research projects, or the student-run Math & Physics Club, the Math and Physics department offered me multiple ways to become a more engaged and interested student, helping me to ultimately learn not only about math, but about myself”.
