Rockhurst
offers a bachelor of science in sports science,
which integrates classroom and hands-on internship
experiences. To suit your interests and
career goals, you can choose between two tracks
of study. Both tracks are offered during the
day and share eight courses in the major and
a required internship, which provides you with
real-world experiences in the field. The tracks
are:
Health and Wellness Track
In addition to 25 credit hours in sports science major courses, this track calls
for 24 credit hours of lower-division science courses and 14 credit hours of
upper-division science courses. You will also complete a practicum at a health
or fitness facility. This track is excellent preparation for an immediate career
or graduate study. Students interested in pursuing a Rockhurst master’s
degree in occupational therapy or physical
therapy are encouraged to discuss
this with their advisor as early as possible to ensure all prerequisites are
satisfied.
Graduates of this track will be prepared for
careers in areas such as personal training in
sports and fitness clubs, rehabilitation (e.g.
geriatric centers, medical rehabilitation units),
and corporate wellness.
Sports Administration Track
In addition to 24 credit hours in sports science major courses, this track calls
for 16 credit hours of lower-division science courses and 18 credit hours of
upper-division business courses (business administration minor). You will also
complete a practicum in a sports administration setting. Students completing
this track are eligible to apply for Rockhurst’s fifth-year MBA program through the Helzberg School of Management.
Careers include positions such as sports marketer,
sports manager and recreational business or facilities
manager.
