Rockhurst offers a Physics of Medicine Minor designed to deepen students’ understanding of physics principles and the applicability of those principles to the allied health field. The Physics of Medicine minor curriculum provides excellent preparation for graduate study in Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, CSD, Pharmacy and research positions. To suit your interests and career goals, you can choose to take courses as electives or complete all four courses to obtain the minor. The advantages to students of this minor are:
- Deeper understanding of physics principles and their applicability to an allied health field career.
- Stronger post-graduate application to competitive health field programs.
- Undergraduate research opportunities – potential for capstone area or future graduate work.
- Value to students of interdisciplinary study, allowing them to tie together coursework in science/math with professional goals.
To complete the Physics of Medicine Minor:
The minor consists of four courses:
- PH 3200: Physics of the Body I (3 Hours, Offered Fall Semester Odd years); pre-req - one year of introductory physics
- PH 3210: Physics of the Body II (3 Hours, Offered Spring Semester even years); pre-req - Physics of the Body I
- MT 3260: Math and Medicine (3 Hours, Offered Fall Semester Even years); pre-req – Calculus I
- PH or MT 3240: Physics and Math of Health Care Instrumentation (3 Hours, Offered Spring Semester Odd Years); pre-req – one year of introductory physics and Calculus I
