Presentation: "Stem Cells, Cloning, and The Missouri Stem Cell Amendment"
by John F. Morris, Ph.D.
Department of Philosophy
Rockhurst University
Dr. Morris is the Special Advisor to Bishop Finn for the Diocese of Kansas City/St. Joseph on the issues of Stem Cell Research, Cloning, and Human Embryos, and has lectured across the Kansas City metro and surrounding areas on these topics. Dr. Morris has also provided expert testimony for both the Missouri and Kansas State Legislatures regarding the ethics of stem cell research and cloning.
In this presentation Dr. Morris will explain the science and ethics of stem cell research, including the key difference between adult stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research, and the connection between embryonic stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer, i.e., therapeutic cloning. Dr. Morris will also specifically address the current Stem Cell Initiative that will be on the November ballot in Missouri, clarifying what the proposed constitutional amendment actually says and what it would actually legalize if passed.
