Follow 13 Rockhurst students and two faculty members on their linguistic and cultural immersion experience in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, this summer. The students study Spanish and live with families in Santiago, a city in Northern Spain that is also a major pilgrimage destination for Catholics from around the world. The trip, from May 29 to July 3, was organized by Rockhurst's Department of Modern Languages and Literature.
On the Itinerary
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia. Located in the northwest region of Spain in the province of A Coruña, it was the "European City of Culture in the year 2000." The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is the destination of the important medieval pilgrimage route, the Camino de Santiago, which is still walked today.
The group, which includes professors Rocío Duncan and Marisa Fernández and Rockhurst students, will spend five days in Madrid, Spain's largest city and national capital. In addition to the immersion program in Santiago, the group will visit many other important places in Spain such as Segovia, Toledo and Alcalá.
