Rockhurst University summer study in Spain
June 22 to July 26, 2004

Join 18 Rockhurst students and two faculty members from the Department of Modern Languages on their linguistic and cultural immersion in Spain. The students studied Spanish in Málaga on the southernmost coast of España, and visited Madrid, El Escorial, Segovia, Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba and Nerja. If you have any questions or comments about the group's adventure, e-mail dscott.hendrickson@rockhurst.edu.

Check out some of our fotos:

Program directors (y expertos en castellano) Rocío De la Rosa Duncan and D.Scott Hendrickson, SJ.

Passports, check. Travel brochures, check. Official Rockhurst documentation, check. We're ready to depart! (¡Buen viaje!)

Before we hit the books, we did a little sight-seeing. Here we are at La Plaza Mayor de Madrid.

It's a good thing we left our SUVs at home. (Una calle de Madrid)

Lots of walking...lots of walking... (Una caminata por Madrid.)

¡So we've only been here a few days, but we already feel like Estudiantes de Cervantes!

Do you think they can tell we're tourists? This is Don Quijote y Sancho Panza.

Outdoor cafes are perfect for intense scholarly discussions of Spanish language and culture.

Here's our gang at El Alcázar de Segovia.

El Acueducto de Segovia -- The aqueduct in Segovia, built by the Romans in the 2nd century.

Can you find the faculty member in this photo?

Our fearless leader Scott is great at recommending which Spanish food to eat...and which to stay away from. (las tortillas son muy diferentes aquí.)

La Catedral de Sevilla, the third largest in Europe.

An orange grove in the middle of Seville. The first oranges were brought to Spain by the Arabs.

El Alcázar de Sevilla, a Moorish palace.

Even the linguistically challenged can read this caption: El grupo de Rockhurst

The architecture here is fabulous! We've seen all kinds, including Arquitectura árabe.

The Spanish fans (abanicos) come in handy and are stylish too.

Who did their Spanish homework today? All work and no play makes for a boring trip to Europe! Here we are in El Mediterráneo.

In between our adventures, Rocío helps us (Tutorías) with our language skills.

It looks like we're working, but we're really just e-mailing friends back home! (Trabajo)
