Faculty Honors

Dr. Pam Hart, Assistant Professor, has been selected as one of 20 professionals to participate in ASHA's 2008 Leadership Development Program. She was selected because of her interest and commitment to professional issues and the leadership potential she has demonstrated in her career. Congratulations Dr. Hart!

2008 MSHA Conference

From March 28-30, 2008, several faculty and many students attended the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing (MSHA) Convention at Tan-Tar-A Resort. The following sessions were presented by Rockhurst faculty and/or students:

2008 MSHA Legislative Day

Dr. Nancy Montgomery and many of the CSD graduate and undergraduate students attended the 2008 MSHA Legislative Day Tuesday, February 19, 2008, to advocate for the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology.  Participants attended presentations about the legislative process and then met with thier individual legislators.

Accreditation

The CSD Faculty and Staff and Rockhurst University Administration are pleased to announce full accreditation status through the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association for a period of 8 years beginning March 1, 2007 through February 28, 2015. 

ASHA Convention

CSD faculty and many students attended the 2007 convention of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's convention held in Boston, Massachusetts.  Several faculty members presented at the convention including the following:

Ms. Carol Koch, Ms. Lynn Drazinski, and RU graduate student Kimberly Van den Enden presented "Mentoring the Millennial Generation:  Implications for Clinical Supervision".

Dr. Nancy Montgomery presented "Why Can't Mario Read," a collaborative research project completed by former graduate student Margaret Walker, with the help of Dr. Jack Katz.

Dr. Pam Hart presented a poster session entitled "Relationships Between Perceived Supervisory Needs and Practicum Outcome Measurements"

One of the highlights of the convention was the keynote address at the ASHA awards luncheon presented by Bob Woodruff and his wife Lee, based on their new book In An Instant.  Bob sustained a head injury while covering the war in Iraq as a journalist.  Their presentation highlighted the benefits he and his family have received from services provided by a speech-language pathologist.  A podcast is available at the following link:

Faculty Acheivements

Dr. Linda Solomon is once again working with the American Stroke Foundation and graduate student, Maggie Brandt will be assisting her. Dr. Solomon is also continuing her work with the Kansas City Parkinson’s Association to facilitate the communication skills of these individuals and their families. Graduate students, Olivia Byram and Laura Frye will be assisting her.

Dr. Nancy Montgomery is currently serving as the President of the Missouri Speech-Language Hearing Association. This office is a three year commitment, first serving as President-elect, then President, and then past president.  As President, she represented MSHA at the ASHA Health Care Conference in St. Louis during in April, 2008.
