Science Knowledge Bowl
Every year, Rockhurst hosts the Department of Energy's Science Knowledge Bowl. During the 2001 - 2002 academic year, OVER 100 teams of students - representing 54 schools form Missouri and Kansas - will participate in the event. Students demonst rated their knowledge of subject matter trivia in chemistry, physics, biology, math, and computer science. Please contact us for more information.

Science Olympiad
Every year, for the last 12 years, Rockhurst has been involved in running the Science Olympiad competition, including hosting the competition every other year. During this event, high school students from Missouri and Kansas demonstrate their science experiments and knowledge for an audience of their peers, teachersm and future professors. of College and University Biology Educators (A.C.U.B.E.)
During the
1998 - 1999 academic year, Rockhurst hosted the Association
of College and University Biology Educators , drawing
110 Biology professors to the college for scholarly
presentations. Our faculty remain active members of

Science Health Are Reaching for Excellence (S.H.A.R.E.)
Every year, Rockhurst hosts S.H.A.R.E. in Science Education, Inc. activities. S.H.A.R.E. in Science Education, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing science education in the greater Kansas City area. Begun in 1988, S.H.A.R.E. is operated by officers and a board of directors selected from a cross-section of area school districts, businesses, and professional science related societies. Activities sponsored by this organization include annual science and math summer day camps for elementary-aged children, science and math day camps for students enrolled in the Kansas City, Kansas School District, workshops for preschool teachers designed to support the integration of science and math activities; and workshops for elementary and secondary teachers on science and math related topics.
Badge Workshop for Girl Scouts
Faculty in Rockhurst's biology, physics, math and computer science departments, science majors, and freshman interested in pursuing a major in science actively work with children in the community to promote scientific and mathematical learning, particularly for girls. SInce 1991, over 13,000 Girls Scouts have earned their badges in Water Wonders, Ecology, Computer Fun, Math Whiz, Ms. Fix It, and Aerospace, and many Brownies have earned their "Try-It" badges through workshops offered by our faculty during the past seven years.

Academy of Sciences / Kansas Academy of Sciences
Rockhurst has hosted with University of Missouri-Kansas City a joint
meeting of the Missouri and Kansas Academies of Science,
April 16-17,2004. Many of Rockhurst faculty are acative inthe Missouri Academy of Science.
Advanced Placement Program
Over the years, Rockhurst has
been active in delivering courses to hundreds of high school students
from neighboring school systems through our Advanced
Placement Program.
